They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

If that is the case then these photos speak volumes.  These photos show the real suffering so many animals endure and the fighting spirit that keeps them going.
Alice,before       Alice,now
Little Alice, terrified when in the shelter, but all puppy kisses and puppy play now in her foster home.  Sweet Alice is waiting for 'her family' to adopt her.

Rufus,before     Rufus,now
Rufus...abandoned when his family moved out and left him outside to fend for himself; then advertised for free on the FB "Sell Everything" Detroit listing.  Good thing so many kind-hearted people watch the ads!  Rufus is now enjoying the comforts of home and couch while he waits for his ''forever' family to meet him.

Spunky,before     Spunky,now
Sweet senior, Spunky!  A house fire forced Spunky's family to release him and several other canine companions to a local shelter.  It was quickly learned that he needed medical care for ear and skin infections.  A shelter is no place for any dog, let alone a laid back senior that was abruptly uprooted from his home, so Spunky was brought into foster care where he waits patiently for a family to call his own.  His foster mom says that where ever Spunky is, there is his pillow that he sucks on.  How cute is that!

Barney,before     Barney,now2
Beautiful Barney was picked up as a stray and spent some time in a shelter.  He was, what you might call, a typical shelter dog...except with personality plus!  Why no one snatched this beautiful boy up is unknown, but his luck changed when an HDDCR volunteer stepped forward to foster him.  Barney is enjoying his time with his foster family while he waits for that special family to call his own.  Along with his happy-go-lucky personality, this boy is so photogenic!!

Lizzie,before     Lizzie,now     Lizzie+pups
Meet Lizzie, a tiny Yorkie mix dumped at a shelter with her two tiny pups, terrified and confused.  Well no longer!!  Lizzie and her offspring are enjoying all the comforts they could possibly want in their foster home.  Not quite ready for adoption yet; Lizzie's little ones need to get just a bit older and stronger.

Pearl,before       Pearl,now
Pearl is truly 'the pearl of great price.'  This little sweetheart lost her home through no fault of her own, and was scared and confused when she ended up in a MI foster home.  Pearl's transformation from fearful to certified lap warmer is amazing.  Everyone that has met Pearl comments on how affectionate she is, which is no doubt why she now spends her days in the hearts and arms of her adoptive family.

Oscar, beforeOscar, after rescue
Little Oscar was found living in a trashcan in Detroit.  How and why he was there is still a mystery.  But now he is enjoying laps, love, and good grub.

 Treasure,before     Treasure,after
One man's junk really is another's "Treasure."  Treasure was very underweight, had bleeding skin, lots hair loss and her ears were swollen shut from infection when she came to HDDCR.  She went to her adoptive home healthy, happy, and chunky.

 Licorice,before    Licorice,after
Little Licorice was found wandering the streets, cold and shivering. He was taken to a local shelter where he received immediate care.  While there, it was learned Licorice is blind and had substantial hair loss.  After much need TLC and medical care, Licorice blossomed, and it wasn't long before he found his way into the hearts and home of his adoptive family.
