CRATE:
WILL GO INTO CRATE TO LAY DOWN AND WE HAVE CLOSED THE DOOR A COUPLE OF TIMES ND HE HAS BEEN FINE AS LONG AS HE CAN SEE US. ONCE HE CAN'T SEE US HE HAS A BIT OF A FIT. NOT SURE HOW HE WILL DO WHEN NO ONE IS HOME.
CAR:
DOESN'T LIKE IT MUCH BUT NOT SURE IF HE HAD EVER BEEN IN A CAR BEFORE. WE WORKED WITH HIM TO GET INTO THE BACK SEAT WITH THE HELP OF HAM AS A TREAT.
HE HAS NOT LEARNED TO JUMP YET SO THIS MAY BE WHY HE WON'T JUMP IN TH BACK OF THE CAR THROUGH THE HATCH DOOR.
PLAY:
LOVES HIS TENNIS BALLS, PLAYS FETCH AND BRINGS THE BALL BACK. HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY WITH TUG TOYS SO HE JUST CHEWS EVERYTHING FROM TOUGH TOYS TO PILLOWS, SHOES, HATS, TOWELS...
TREATS:
DOES NOT LIKE MOST DOG TREATS INCLUDING HOMEMADE TREATS. HE DOES LIKE, MOST OF THE TIME BUT NOT ALWAYS THE TRADER JOE'S DOG OYSTER CRACKER LOOKING TREATS.
HE DOES LIKE BULLY BONES AND FREEZE-DRIED BULLY TREATS & BLUE WILDERNESS WILD BONE DENTAL TREAT ONCE A DAY.
STAIRS:
HE WILL RUN UP THEM AND THE FIRST TIME HE WOULD NOT COME DOWN. HE HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO. WE HELPED HIM SO HE WOULD DO IT ON HIS OWN AND THEN THE NEXT TIME HE WAS STILL HESITANT BUT DID COME DOWN ON HIS OWN.
WALKING:
ALWAYS HARNESS. HE HAS LEARNED TO WALK ON A LEASH WITH US BUT WILL NEED CONTINUED REINFORCEMENT. HE IS FINE SEEING OTHER HUMANS WHILE WALKING BUT WHEN HE SEES ANOTHER DOG HE GETS OVER EXCITED AND TRIES TO PULL ND WHINES AND YELPS. HE WANTS TO MEET THE OTHER DOG. NOT AGGRESSIVE MEET A HAPPY MEET.
HE HAS ONLY BEEN WITH OUR 18 LB DOG AND WANTS TO PLAY BUT DOESN'T KNOW HOW WITH OTHER DOGS YET. HE WOULD REQUIRE PROPER INTRODUCTION TO OTHER DOGS AND SUPERVISED.
BANDIT HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE WE PICKED HIM UP LAST MONDAY. HE IS AN UNTRAINED 1-YEAR-OLD PUPPY WHO IS STRONG AND SMART WITH AN INDEPENDENT MIND. HE IS A GOOD DOG AND WITH PROPER TRAINING AND A HUMAN WHO CAN PUT THE TIME, EFFORT AND PATIENCE TO HIM, HE WILL BE A GREAT DOG!
BANDIT LISTENS WELL, CAN BE REDIRECTED AS NEEDED. KNOWS BASIC COMMANDS-SIT, DOWN, LEAVE IT, STOP, AND OFF. SOME HE STILL NEEDS TO WORK ON BUT HE UNDERSTANDS.
HE IS TENDER ON HIS LOWER BACK AND DOES NOT CARE TO BE TOUCHED OR PETTED THERE.
DOESN'T LIKE TO BE PATTED ON HIS SIDES, HE LIKES PETTING AND BEING STROKED BUT NOT PATTING.
A BIT MOUTHY WHEN TRYING TO PUT ON COLLAR OR HARNESS.
LOVES BELLY RUBS, EAR RUBS AND LIKES TO BE BRUSHED, EXCEPT IN THE AREA ON HIS BACK MENTIONED ABOVE. HE LIKES TO BE WITH HIS HUMANS.
Bandit is new to the rescue and has many unknowns at this time, I am looking for someone with Shepherd experience, and an adopter willing to commit to working with him on several things, Bandit does have some anxiety and would prefer someone home more often than not, he does require lots of exercises so he will need an avid runner or at the least a person who walks several times a day. Bandit will need patience, as he takes a minute to warm up to strangers, we are unsure how he is with children so would prefer older or no children in the home unless we find out otherwise before adoption, we are unsure at the moment how he is with dogs .
Bandit is a 1-year-old purebred German Shepard. He knows sit, down, up, paw, watch me, "in" to enter his home, he knows let go, he knows to fetch the ball when you say "ball." He is also leash trained but he can be stubborn at times Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $45.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information. Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
