Description:

Little Bear, who is only 3 months old,  was brought to Genessee County Animal Control Saturday, October 29 in serious condition. She had been viciously attacked by another dog and her throat and ear were torn open. She had multiple bite wounds all over her little body and the wounds were terribly infected. They knew it was a life or death situation and she was rushed to the emergency vet. They were able to stabilize her and after a brief stay she returned to animal control. Yesterday, Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue stepped up and took Little Bear into their care. Her infection is so severe, she is in danger of becoming septic. Because the tissue has become necrotic, she will lose her ear and her ear canal will have to be refashioned.

Little Bear is in bad shape, but she is showing us she is a fighter. Despite her pain and what she has been through, she is still wagging her tail and giving kisses. As scared and hurt as she is, she wants to live!

If she is going to survive this ordeal, Little Bear needs to see specialists this week. She is going to need several surgeries. The cost will be extreme and the recovery  long. We know it is worth it, though, because this little baby deserves a chance at a wonderful life. Won't you please help us help Little Bear?

UPDATE: Little Bear made it to Wilson's Veterinary Hospital today and was evaluated by Dr. Matt. He agreed that she will need her ear flap removed and her throat laceration repaired. She will likely also need TECA surgery to close off her ear canal, making her deaf in her left ear. It will take several procedures to get this done and she will need extensive follow-up in the coming months. She is stable now and is resting comfortably under heavy pain meds at Wilson's. She will stay there until her surgery is done in the next couple of days. The procedures are complicated and her recovery will take time. Her prognosis remains guarded but we are hopeful from what we were told today and we know she is in good hands with the expertise of the doctors at Wilson's. The better news is that the estimates cost of her care is less than we were previously told and we have lowered our goal to $5000. WE CAN DO THIS!!

HDDCR requires a spay/neuter contract by the adopter if puppies and kittens in our care are too young for sterilization. This is a form the adopter signs at the time of adoption, confirming that they will get the pet spayed/neutered by a certain date. We will hold a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee until we receive proof from a veterinarian that the dog was spayed/neutered. The $50 deposit will then be returned to the adopter.

Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to  Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a  $19.99/Year registration fee or a $69.00/Lifetime registration fee  to change information. Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
